This is a play that explores perennial artistic issues like the dualities and juxtapositions of images and reflections, illusion and truth, body and mind, the concrete and the metaphoric ---- in a direct and simple manner, which on the surface gives it the flavour of a folk tale, but contains a whole gamut of complex issues and intricacies treated at multiple levels.
The apparent simplicity of the play needs deft handling to make it plausible to a modern audience. A blend of ritualistic and folk elements from different forms, combined with elements of contemporary theatre, Aks Tamasha is hailed as a milestone of Indian Theatre.
